The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at a home on Vester Avenue in Springfield, NewsChannel5 partner ONN reported.

Police said the woman told the dispatcher that she tried to drown her child in a bathtub after having an argument over the phone with her husband.

The woman also claimed to have tried to take her own life, according to police. The dispatcher said she calmed the woman down, telling her how to help the baby girl.

At this time, the child is listed in critical condition at Children’s Medical Center. Police said the child’s mother was admitted to a mental health facility.
