Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news) said on Tuesday it received an order for a private 787 airplane from Hong Kong real estate tycoon Joseph Lau.
The order for Boeing’s new carbon-composite 787-8 model, which would seat up to 250 people if configured as a normal airliner, is valued at $153 million at list prices, the planemaker said.
In all, Boeing said it now has seven orders for private 787s, or “787 VIPs” as it calls them. It is pitching this mega-business jet at wealthy entrepreneurs, especially in Asia, where business people tend to travel longer distances. Read more
Man charged with hiring hit man to kill family

A father told a would-be hit man he’d have no regrets about having his family killed — even his 7-year-old daughter — but he did have some requests, authorities said.
John Orlowski wanted his estranged wife and mother-in-law shot twice in the head, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit. For his little girl, Orlowski wanted one shot to the chest so she could have an open casket, court records said.
Orlowski appeared in federal court Monday, charged in an attempted murder-for-hire plot uncovered last week when the mother of the gang member who was asked to do the killing called the FBI. Read more

Turned down for marriage due to his dark complexion, an Indian man staged a hunger strike outside his would be bride’s house for two days before she finally relented, an official said Saturday.
Saral Prasad, the 23-year-old groom in eastern Bihar state, said he would not budge from the girl’s village home after she refused to marry him earlier this week in an arranged marriage because he was too dark. Read more

A 33-year-old woman has been jailed on allegations she exposed herself to her 13-year-old neighbor and made him touch her, police said.
Michelle Seddon, unemployed and disabled, was booked into the Washoe County Jail on Thursday on suspicion of lewdness with a child, authorities said.
According to a police report, the charge stems from incidents in March that occurred in her Booth Street apartment where she lived with her girlfriend. Read more

SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) — Actress Elizabeth Taylor can keep a Van Gogh painting that might have been illegally seized by the Nazis because the family who once owned it waited too long to ask for it back, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday.
Taylor, 75, bought the 1889 painting “View of the Asylum and Chapel at Saint-Remy” at a Sotheby’s auction in London in 1963 for 92,000 British pounds — about $257,000 at the time. She keeps it in her Los Angeles-area home. Read more

BOSTON - A woman who had sex with her boyfriend’s brother in her darkened room late one night claimed she was raped, saying the man tricked her into the act by impersonating her boyfriend.
But Massachusetts’ Supreme Judicial Court disagreed Thursday, citing a half-century-old state law that says it is not rape when consent to sexual intercourse is obtained through fraud or deceit. Read more
German man found after 7 years dead in bed

The decomposed corpse of a German man was found alone in his bed after nearly seven years, police in the western city of Essen said Thursday.
The police said in a statement the man was 59 and unemployed at the time of his death. He most likely died of natural causes on November 30, 2000, the date he received a letter from the Welfare Office found in the apartment, police said. Read more

A thief covered his face with a pair of blue women’s underwear and used a pistol-shaped cigarette lighter in a botched robbery of a convenience store, police said. “I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried,” State Police Sgt. T.C. Kearns told The Journal in Martinsburg.
The cashier at first thought it was a joke and refused to give the man any money, so he ran to a Jeep Cherokee and drove away at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, Kearns said. Read more

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The lawyer for a Philadelphia police officer accused of sexually assaulting a man says the Police Department’s account of events isn’t completely accurate.
Police say 40-year-old Officer Michael Paige pulled over a car in Fairmount Park on March 16th. Police say he then took one of car’s two male occupants to a secluded area of the park and had “non-consensual sexual activity” with him. Read more
