A spider monkey that escaped from a Mexico City zoo boarded a bus and attacked a passenger, Red Cross officials said Tuesday. The monkey got on the bus at about 11 p.m. Monday after escaping from the San Juan de Aragon Zoo, Red Cross spokesman Jair Martinez said. Zoo officials could not immediately be reached for comment. A Boston terrier named Mickey who disappeared four years ago from his suburban Kansas City backyard was found in Montana and reunited with his owners this week.

Sculpture of Obama as Jesus causes stir

He wears Jesus’ robes and a neon blue halo, looks like Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama  and is causing a stir at a Chicago art school.

An undergraduate student’s papier mache sculpture of Obama as a messianic figure — entitled “Blessing” — went on display Saturday at a downtown gallery run by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. By Monday, word of the piece had spread on political blogs, and the school had been flooded with calls.

David Cordero, 24, made the sculpture for his senior show after noticing all the attention Obama has received since he first hinted he may run for the presidency. Read more

Two people have been arrested in a brutal double murder on Long Island. Police say the divorced couple was viciously murdered by their own son and his girlfriend.
They were shot and killed execution style Sunday night in Elmont, police say. Long Island reporter Emily Smith is in Mineola with the story.

Police say the deceased couple and their son had been arguing for days over his unemployment and his lifestyle, and they say that in itself is what they believe led to the shooting death of his mom and dad. Read more

Shots Wound 3 at Party After Nick Awards

LOS ANGELES — Shots were fired at a party attended mostly by teenagers early Sunday following the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, wounding three people, and police said they suspected gang members were involved.

The party in the western part of the city was thrown by someone who had attended the awards, but it was not an official Nickelodeon function and had no celebrity guests, police Lt. Roger Deranian said.

No arrests had been made by Sunday morning, police said. Read more

Marijuana growers are increasingly moving their operations indoors in an effort to extend the growing season and make more money, authorities say.

Although growing marijuana indoors used to present less of a risk compared with cultivating the illegal plant outside, that hasn’t been the case locally in the past few weeks. Read more
