16-year-old accused of paying another teen $5 to kill father

A 16-year-old is accused of paying another teen $5 to kill his father. He has been arrested, and police are looking for the youth allegedly hired for the hit.
“Basically it was a deal where the teenager didn’t want to be told what to do where he could live, when to come and go,” Caddo Parish sheriff’s Detective Michael Escude said Friday. “He was tired of having to live by rules.”
The boy had moved from his father’s to his mother’s house a day or two before the attempted hit on Wednesday, because the father said he couldn’t deal with the boy any longer, Escude said.
The youth was arrested that night on one count of solicitation for murder and remains in the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said.
“It’s hard to say what will happen in a situation like this because one parent is the victim and the other is a witness,” Escude said. “It’ll be difficult to release him to either parent.”
That also has kept deputies from getting parental permission to question the youth, Cindy Chadwick, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, said Saturday.
Escude said an armed teen showed up at the father’s house in Shreveport about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman who answered his knock saw the gun and slammed and locked the door.
The father thought the gunman was looking for his son.
Escude said the boy was at his mother’s house. Investigators were told that the boy admitted to his parents that he had hired another teen to kill his father.
The teen has a criminal history, and a juvenile judge had signed a warrant for his arrest in March, Escude said. He said the youth will go before a juvenile judge next week, and the Caddo Parish district attorney will decide whether to charge him as an adult.
Authorities spent most of Friday talking with witnesses and seeking the teen with the gun, who remained at large Saturday.
“Charges against the second teen depend on several variables,” Escude said. “It could be anything from attempted second-degree murder to attempted home invasion.”
